Safe Environment

Dear Volunteer, Since the implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People by the Bishops of the United States in 2003, the Church has made great strides in developing policies and procedures that assist in providing safe environments for our young people. One of most important safety precautions instituted by the Charter has been the requirement that dioceses evaluate the background of all employees and volunteers who have contact with minors.

In 2018, the Charter was revised to ensure that all dioceses are using the most current and effective means at their disposal to protect the most vulnerable among us. In compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Minors and Young People, therefore, all employees and volunteers in the Diocese of Phoenix will be required to be trained in Safe Environment annually and complete a state and federal criminal background check prior to serving.

Effective July 1, 2019, we are rolling out a new database training and background check system through Catholic Mutual Group. You will have to log in to the following website: http://phoenix.cmgconnect.org. · If you have been serving for the last few years, your information and class history should have followed you to our new database. You do not need to create a new account. Click the “Sign in Here” option in the upper right corner of the landing page. You will be required to enter a username and password. Please follow the format: Login: Firstname.Lastname.dop Password: 1234 –update your password the first time you sign in by clicking Edit profile Please note that the renewal training will only populate correctly if you log in with your account that has historical records from the previous database. · If you are new to our Diocesan Safe Environment Training or if this is your first time serving for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, you will have to create and complete a new profile and complete the Safe Environment Application. You will be required to sign up for a LIVE or ONLINE Initial/ Foundation Training for Safe Environment. · Effective July 1, 2019, ALL VOLUNTEERS are required to complete a state and federal criminal background check. A third-party company called Selection.com will be processing the background check and quarterly checks. · If you are a new volunteer, you will have to submit to an interview and submit references to your local Safe Environment Coordinator. Please contact them directly at 623-583-8183.

We are grateful to all who wish to participate in the Church’s ministry. Thank you for your commitment in keeping a safe environment for our children. More communication will come to remind you of your Safe Environment Obligation.
